Aberlour Children’s Charity helps disadvantaged children and families in Scotland have a brighter future.
Across Scotland, 1 in 4 children are living in poverty and going without things most of us take for granted, like food. Almost half of the families who apply to our emergency fund for help don't know where their next meal is coming from. Many parents we know rely on food banks to put food on the table, but it's still not enough, so they often go without dinner to make sure their children can eat.
No child should go to bed hungry, but for some children, even the idea of "going to bed" seems a luxury. 20% of the families who ask for our help don't have a bed for their children.
How can a child do well at school if they have not had a good sleep?
Through our Urgent Assistance Fund, Aberlour gives immediate help to families to access basic essential and keep their head above water.
Additionally, our Family Support Workers are available to help children and families in their homes, schools and in their communities 7 days a week. They spend time with the children and the family to understand exactly what kind of support they need to overcome their challenges and thrive.
