Lewes District Citizens Advice We are an independent registered charity and we are here for everyone. We provide free, confidential and impartial advice to help people overcome the initial and underlying causes of their problems as well as being a voice for individuals on the issues that matter to them. Our primary focus is in tackling poverty, inequality, and reduced life opportunities: in this, we support some of the most vulnerable and at-risk people in our community, with many coming to us in crisis. We strive to ensure we are accessible, inclusive and empowering, always ensuring that no one is digitally excluded from accessing our help.
Our support covers a wide range of free advice and services, including money advice and debt, food poverty, energy poverty, accessing and maintaining benefits, immigration, employment, education, housing, and equality issues. We also undertake general signposting and distribute vouchers for fuel, food, clothes and second-hand furniture for those in poverty. We take a holistic approach to providing advice, helping people with multiple issues. We have a key role to play in research and campaigning, both from national perspectives, but also with a local focus that strives to increase awareness and ultimately improve well-being for all.
We seek to address some the root causes of hardship, inequity and deprivation. In 2023 we helped 1800 clients with 6423 differing issues through the delivery of our advice work during a national Cost of Living crisis, our top two areas of need being in welfare benefits and charitable support. 62% of people we supported were disabled or had one or more long terms health conditions, illustrating that we support some of the most vulnerable people in our communities.
