Race Against Dementia Race Against Dementia (RAD) was established by Sir Jackie Stewart, OBE following his wife‘s diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia. Sir Jackie was horrified to discover that there is currently no cure for dementia, a disease which devastates the lives of so many families.
Over 55 million people worldwide now live with dementia. Unless something is done to prevent or cure this dreadful disease, one in three people born today will die with dementia. Every three seconds someone is diagnosed with dementia.
THIS CRISIS CANNOT CONTINUE.
RAD supports early career researchers in many different aspects of dementia research. There are RAD Fellows and three RAD Associates, based in the UK, Australia, the UK, South Africa and Europe.
Each of these scientists is part of the RAD Leadership Programme which gives them a range of skills training aimed at encouraging them to think outside the box and become leaders in their respective fields. RAD wants to accelerate work in this field and drive significant breakthroughs in dementia research.
“I am now facing one of the biggest challenges of my life and will put all my efforts into finding a cure for this horrendous illness” – Sir Jackie Stewart, OBE
